This minor league hockey team is also a popular Toledo attraction. The Walleyes are affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings. Their mascot is an anthropomorphic fish named Spike. They play home games at the Huntington Center which was built in 2009. The annual Teddy Bear Toss encourages fans to throw teddy bears onto the ice to be donated to local charities. Watch Toledo’s hockey team play during the regular season or get tickets to exciting playoff games!
Founded in 1933, Toledo Repertoire Theatre’s purpose is to use live theater to inform, amuse, and serve Toledo and the surrounding area. The 10th Street Theatre has been holding performances in the same downtown space for more than 70 years. The theatre building is a former church that has been charmingly furnished.
An extensive season of exceptionally top-notch regional theater is presented each year by the Toledo Repertoire Theatre. The season features readings, musicals, and traditional, experimental, and new plays such as Side by Side by Sondheim, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Significant Other.
On the east side of Toledo, Ohio in the Birmingham neighborhood, Tony Packo opened a restaurant in 1932. It is famous in Toledo for its signature sandwich, a sausage on rye with chili sauce. The restaurant gained notoriety starting in 1976 when it was mentioned in several episodes of the TV show M*A*S*H. The restaurant has stayed in the same building and has retained the charm. The Packo family still runs the cafe. There is a sizable collection of hot dog buns that famous people have autographed.
